MAKE A DIFFERENCE

There are potentially 1,000 families with life-limited children in Sussex. Chestnut Tree House offers support for the whole family including psychological and bereavement support, end of life and short break care and sibling support.

It currently costs well over £3.5m each year to provide all the care services provided by Chestnut Tree House. Families are never charged for their care and less than 7p in every pound is funded by the government, so we rely heavily on the generosity, help and support of the generous community.

At Chestnut Tree House our goal is to provide the best quality of life for children, young people and their families, and to offer a total package of practical, social and spiritual support throughout each child’s life, however short it may be.

Why are we doing this?

Whilst most of us are busy creating the best life for our families, we sometimes forget to take a moment to be grateful for the most simple yet most important things to us. We sometimes take for granted what is our most valuable possession. Something that can be taken from us, seriously altered or changed in the blink of an eye. Our lives... Its easy for us to turn a blind eye to others pain and struggles. This year we want to make a difference. We want to have an impact and do something to help those that don't have any certainty to rely on. They don't have someone telling them that it will all be alright.  We have promised local children's hospice that on Christmas Eve this year, we are going to visit the hospice and deliver £3,000.00 worth of gifts to the children and staff there. We have formed an amazing team of people who have volunteered to take part for this amazing cause which will be the start of something very special. Please sponsor this amazing event!

THE TEAM

JASON GRAYSTONE

Hi I'm Jason. Im 35 years old, a husband and a devoted father of two beautiful boys.

Being able to provide them with a content and secure life is what drives me the most.

My family have had some amazing holidays and experienced things that i would only have dreamed of as a child.

But this year I want to make a difference.

I want to have an impact and do something to  help those that don't have any certainty to rely on. They don't have someone telling them that it will all be alright.

I decided to call up an amazing local children's hospice and promise them that on Christmas Eve this year, I am going to visit the hospice with my family and deliver £3,000.00 worth of gifts to the children and staff there.

Since hanging up the phone, I have put together a sponsored event and called up my closest friends who have volunteered to take part for this amazing cause which will be the start of something I promise to carry on for years to come.

Please sponsor this amazing event!

Lots of love to you, Jay xx

JASON CYCLED 335 MILES TO AMSTERDAM WITH TEAM BULLHEART TO RAISE OVER £6,000.00 FOR ST RAPHAELS HOSPICE

SARAH GRAYSTONE

Hi, I'm Sarah I'm 34 and a mother to two beautiful boys and wife to Jason.  Im a qualified personal trainer and have always had a keen interest in fitness particularly weight training. I have taken part in various challenges including Race for Life and The Colour Obstacle Run but nothing quite as demanding as this. The main reason I decided to take part in this challenge is because as a mum to two boys and knowing how much we love and cherish our children I can't begin to  imagine what some families go through when their children are unwell and I would love to be able to make a difference to them even if it is only in a small way.  I really hope people get behind us on this and that we can smash our target and make a big difference to these children.

AKIL STOKES

AKIL FREQUENTLY INVOLVES HIMSELF IN CHARITY EVENTS AND HELPING OTHERS WHERE HE CAN

Hi my name is Akil! I’m a Real Estate Investor, and a professional Forex Trader who also teaches others how to navigate the financial markets. When I’m not in front of the computer, I’m out coaching Track & Field at Millersville University of Pennsylvania (United States).
I’m a father of one who is addicted to anything athletic related and even more addicted to competition. So, when my buddy Jason Graystone told me about the challenge of running to raise money for The Chestnut Treehouse Children’s Hospice, my response was “HOW MANY” and “WHEN CAN I START!”

ANGIE HULST

Hi I'm Angie! I'm 35 and I am a qualified massage therapist, Boxercise instructor, part time Physiotherapy technician, student and mother of three.

When and where I can, I take donations to shelters and follow the kindness initiatives (kindness.org).

As If this doesn't keep me busy enough, I train in Muay Thai and have started to do obstacle course races too. I enjoy keeping fit and feeling strong although It's not always easy to stay motivated so when Jason Graystone asked me to join his challenge to run 1500 kilometers over the space of a month (November) in a team to raise money for The Chestnut Treehouse Children's Hospice I was more than happy to accept (my legs not so happy!)

I have the opportunity to help raise money for a wonderful cause whilst keeping fit, that's more than enough motivation to succeed! The Chestnut Treehouse children's hospice cares for 300 children with life shortening illnesses across Sussex, providing them and their families with support. They have a range of services from play therapy to counseling and most importantly they try to bring as much fun into these children's lives as possible, making every day count. With less than 7pence per pound funding from the government they rely on donations and the charity from people across Sussex and beyond to continue their amazing work. You can help keep this amazing hospice running (and me) by making a donation .....

ANGIE FREQUENTLY TAKES PART IN RUNS AND OBSTACLE COURSES TO RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITY

JAMES CHEVALIER

JAMES CYCLED THE LENGTH OF THE COUNTRY TO RAISE MONEY FOR TEAM BULLHEART ALONGSIDE MARK FRADGELY

Hi my name is jay chevalier and I'm 31 years old, self employed carpenter.

I always like to give where I can and I have taken part in a few charity events over the years. These include three cycling challenges. One of which was to raise money for a good friend who fell ill to cancer and needed support, so eight of us set out on 4 tandems and pedalled from his house in London to Paris in 3 days raising a few thousand pounds which helped him along the way to recovery.

I also rode to Amsterdam on a single speed bike with some close friends and family. This was to raise money as a thank St Raphael's Hospice who took care of my grandad in his final days.  I also took part in a huge ride as part of team Bullheart. Three of us cycled the length of the country covering 997miles in just 12 days. This was huge considering one of the team had incurable cancer. The man still fights today and raises money for charity how ever he can. Mark Fradgley is an inspiration who got me into cycling and taught me some great lessons in the value of life. We raised a huge amount for sarcoma.

So when I heard Jason Graystone  was wanting to raise money for a children's hospice I jumped at the chance not only because it's for children's hospice which to me is one of the most important, but because I owe him my help and a huge thank you as he helped me raise money by cycling 335 miles to Amsterdam along side me for my Grandad.

He then told me that we would be running 100km each! I don't do much running, well to be honest I don't run at all so it's a great chance to get out and start running and raise some money for great cause. It scares me slightly and i will have to severely get out of my comfort zone but I'll dig deep and get on with it because it's only pain after all.

Since becoming a dad to a daughter earlier this year it makes you look at life very differently and I couldn't even begin to imagine what the families and children in the hospice must be going through so the least we can do is try and help by a doing a little fund raising so that people across Sussex and beyond can continue to do their amazing work. You can help keep this amazing hospice running (and me) by making a donation .....

MEGAN O'NEIL

Hi my names Megan & I’m a Marine Biology major at Millersville University of Pennsylvania (Unitied States).

I’ve been involved in many different forms of athletics including Field Hockey, Basketball and Lacrosse but out of all of them running is my favorite…Well second favorite behind biking.

It’s great that I’ll be able to contribute to a team running for a good cause in helping children. Please support!

STEVE THOMPSON

My name is Steve Thompson. After working for the past 7 years at Mencap, I am passionate about helping to raise money for charities and any good causes such as the Chestnut Tree House.
I am particularly excited and grateful to be involved as it is to help raise money for Children with life-shortening conditions and their families. This hospice provides a great service and care for these children and their families and will benefit from any contributions we can generate.

With two kids of my own, I believe family is the most important part of anyone's life and if there is any way I can help provide support or raise money for these families and their care providers, I am very happy and privileged to be a part of it. I want to help put as much fun into these children's lives as possible, making every day count. With less than 7pence per pound funding from the government they rely on donations and the charity from people across Sussex and beyond to continue their amazing work. STEVE TAKING PART IN A 400 MILE CYCLING EVENT FOR MENCAP

BRIANNA LANDIS

Hey it’s Bri! I’m a first year student studying Biology at Millersville University of Pennsylvania and I absolutely love to run! However, it does sometimes get boring when I don’t have anything specific to train for. That’s why I’m excited to take part in this event for the Chestnut Treehouse! It gives me a reason to run and I know that what I’m doing is having a very positive impact on others.

ANDY YOUNG

Hi my name is Andy Young and I’m the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Millersville University of Pennsylvania (United States).

Giving back to the community and involving our team in charitable events is a core value of our program here at Millersville. So, when I heard about this opportunity, I was more than willing to sign up.
Currently my body and running aren’t agreeing with each other, but a cause like this is just the motivation that I need to fight that battle. Last year I completed my first Ironman, so I figure if I can tough it through that, I’ll be able to channel enough inside of me to make it through this challenge!

SHANNON CRUZ

Shannon here! I’m in my final year of college at Millersville University of Pennsylvania (United States) and I LOVE TO RUN! There’s something about being out there on the road that gives you a peace that is unmatched by anything else. There’s nothing better than being able to do something you love while raising money for a GREAT CAUSE at the same time! I can’t wait.

ADAM MALLOY

Hi my name is Adam (Left). I'm a track and field coach who's had the luxury of coaching many athletes from across the U.S. I also work for Newell Brands where our mission is to "Make life better for hundreds of millions of customers everyday where they live, learn, work and play."

Thats why when i found out about this event, I signed up straight away! Not only do i get to play a small part in making life better for children in need, but I get to do so in a way that I'm very passionate about which is running!

I cannot wait to get started! November is going to be a GREAT month!

Hi I'm Matt (Right), I'm a former college decathlete so I'm used to taking on any type of challenge. I'm currently a 4th grade teacher at our pole vault coach here at Millersville. I cannot wait to be part of this awesome team for such a great cause, the Chestnut Tree House.
